Hannah Unsworth
Hannah volunteered at the Science in the Park outreach event, in July 2023, run by DPAG’s Outreach and Public Engagement Working Group. The day consisted of a variety of hands-on science activities in University Parks, aiming to get children interested in science from a young age. Hannah ran a blood-matching workshop where children were tasked with matching various animals with their blood colour, while also learning about the chemical explanation behind the rainbow of different colours blood can be. Annabel Brunt
Annabel has been working with the Department of Chemistry’s Educational Outreach Team on a project celebrating the Oxford Botanic Gardens’ 400th anniversary. The project, Chemistry in the Garden, is a virtual tour of the Botanic Gardens, with links and resources related to a selection of plants in the collection, their history, applications, chemistry, and relevant departmental research. Annabel has worked closely with Karl Harrison, IT Coordinator and Training Officer, on the 360 degree photographic images of the garden, as well as behind-the-scenes technology to support the creation of the resource. The aim of the project is to engage members of the public with the interesting and intriguing chemistry of plants and how this relates to past and modern medical and chemical research.
